Knicks Reportedly Make Major RJ Barrett Contract Decision

R.J. Barrett, a guard for the New York Knicks, will be a key player in their future plans.

They made that plain on Monday, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN,

when they allegedly extended the four-year rookie deal of the former No. 3 overall choice.

Barrett's contract may be worth $120 million.

The Knicks appear to have guaranteed, by signing Barrett, that future discussions with the Utah Jazz on a potential Donovan Mitchell deal will proceed differently.

Knicks and Jazz recently closed the gap on deal points for a Mitchell trade, but neither team will proceed.

But if they do, Barrett, who just finished a season in which he averaged a career-high 20.8 points per game, will unquestionably be his partner.

becomes the first Knicks first-round pick to sign a multi-year extension with the team since Charlie Ward in 1999.
