Padres All Star righty Joe Musgrove agree to five year $100M extension
Right-hander Joe Musgrove and the Padres have agreed to a five-year, $100 million agreement
according to Jon Heyman of the New York Post (Twitter links). The agreement includes a full no-trade clause for the following four seasons as well as restricted no-trade protection for 2027
It also pays even $20M in wages each year between 2023 and 2027
Heyman stated that the parties were close to reaching an agreement at those terms last Friday
At the end of the year, Full Circle Sports Management client Musgrove was scheduled to become a free agent.
Musgrove and the Friars had been negotiating extension terms for months, and things seemed to pick some speed around the All-Star break.
The five-year, $100 million price tag comes as a bit of a shock.
